Finding the Will of God
Part 2
Matthew 6:10
“Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven."
He desires that we walk by faith.
When God told Solomon to go to Jesse’s house and anoint the new king of Israel God didn’t tell Solomon who would be the new King. No, He just told Solomon to go to Jesse’s house and anoint the man God had appointed.
“’And you will anoint for Me the one I name to you’. And Samuel did what the Lord said, and came to Bethlehem”, I Samuel 16:3,4.
Then it says that “Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. And Samuel said to Jesse, ‘The Lord has not chosen any of these’” (vs. 10). Finally Samuel says, “Are all your sons here?”(vs. 11)
When Jesse sends for his youngest son God says to Samuel, “Arise, anoint him; this is he” (vs. 12).
Now I am sure that Samuel would have been very happy and relieved for God to just tell him to begin with who would be the next king. After all it would be easier, wouldn’t it? But God doesn’t always want to tell us everything. He desires that we walk by faith not by sight (2 Cor. 5:7). If He told us everything, then there would be no need to exercise our faith and we wouldn’t need to lean on Him and learn to listen to His voice.
As a matter of fact, in verse 7, God told Samuel not to look at the outward appearance of a man because God looks at the heart. “But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Look not on his appearance or at the height of his stature, for I have rejected him. For the lord sees not as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.’”
Here again we see that God doesn’t desire for us to look at the natural to determine His will. He desires that we listen to Him and He will reveal His will.
“Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.” Proverbs 3:5,6 (AMP)
He fulfills the desires of our hearts.
“Delight yourself in the LORD and He will give you the desires of your heart” Psalm 37:4.
If you are seeking God first, putting Him ahead of everything in your life, then His desires become your desires. Sometimes this is how He births things within you. If you’re seeking Him first, delighting in Him, then there are desires within your heart that God put there. Those desires are there for a reason. Those desires are from God and He has put those desires within your heart to lead and guide you into His path. That’s exciting!
Maybe God has put it in your heart, given you a desire, to help the homeless. Or maybe you have a desire within you to become a doctor, or you have a desire to help the elderly in the nursing homes. Whatever those desires are, they are put there by God. He is conforming you into His image.
If you will follow those desires, yield to them, then God will show you the next step to accomplish His will. Whatever it is that God has for you, there is provision for it to be accomplished.
Many times God calls us to accomplish something beyond our ability.
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts” Isaiah 55:8, 9.
His thoughts and imagination extend much further than ours ever will. His plan and destiny for you goes beyond what you may think or dream.
He calls us to go beyond our ability, so that it is clear to all that it is God and not man doing the work. Even Jesus didn’t do anything or say anything on His own. He always did what He saw His Father doing (Jn. 8:28).
Go the way of peace.
Isaiah 55:12, “You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace.”
Peace is a perfect scale to weigh your plans. God will not guide you in a pathway that is not full of His peace. If there is, what some call, a “check” within your spirit when you’re trying to make a decision, God is trying to steer you away from that plan. The Holy Spirit is giving you a warning that this path is not the route He desires for you. Be sure and go the way of peace. “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts” Col. 3:15.
Let that peace be your umpire; your judgment when making plans.
Knowledge of God’s will gives you power.
The enemy doesn’t want you to know God’s will because he knows it:
1. Has the power to keep you from sin.
2. Has the ability to empower you to affect others; impact others for Christ.
The devil will do everything he can to keep you from finding God’s will for your life. He doesn’t even want you to know what you should do today. He is a master in confusion, but God is not a God of disorder or confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33).
Heaven on earth
“Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” Matthew 6:10.
God desires that heaven be revealed on earth. God wants as much of heaven on earth as possible. He sent Jesus to set us free from the sin that began in the Garden of Eden. Jesus set us free from everything that sin brought into the earth. That includes: sickness, disease, poverty, lack, confusion of the mind, famine, and drought because all of these are listed under the Curse in Deuteronomy 28.
He wants believers to set up His Kingdom on earth by sharing with everyone His Good News about Jesus and what He did for us. He wants people to repent and be saved. He wants them free from sin, free from the entire Curse listed above.
What does this have to do with knowing God’s will? Everything because when something comes into your life that is contrary to this purpose of His, then you know it is not from Him. Sin, sickness, disease, and all the other bondages, are not God’s will. He has set His people free through Jesus! Hallelujah!
“’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’” Jeremiah 29:11.
The Spirit leads us:
“But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own; He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell you what is yet to come” John 16:13.
I have seen the truth in this verse come about in my life. There have been many times when the Holy Spirit guided me not only in truth, but also told me things that would come into my life. It is when we are in close relationship and fellowship with the Lord that we will be able to discern His voice and hear Him speaking to us. He gives us guidance. His guidance is always in accordance with the word of God. His direction is never contrary to the Word.
His Word guides us:
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path” Psalm 119:105.
“When you walk, they will guide you; when you sleep, they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you. For these commands are a lamp, this teaching is a light” Proverbs 6:22, 23.
His Word also guides us in the direction we should go. In Psalm 119, above, we see that His Word lights our pathway. If you were in the dark and in need of light, the first place you would shine the light is the path where your feet are walking. You would shine it right on your path and obviously this would enable you to see where to go. God’s Word is the same. His Word lights the pathway of our lives. That is encouraging and powerful!
When you need direction, lean on the Holy Spirit to guide you into all truth, and trust His Word to give you the light for that path!
Whatever direction you are praying about, if you’ll go to the Word of God and pray, He will lead you right into the path where you need to go. He has a destiny and a plan for you that is more than you could ever possibly think or imagine (Eph. 3:20)! His path is the fulfilling path, so make sure you get on it and stay on it!
God bless you!
